Varieties of Governance: Effective Public Service Delivery

Examining service delivery within a political economy framework

The GDN Global Research Project titled Varieties of Governance: Effective Public Service Delivery explores the role of formal and informal institutions (at both country and sector level) in service delivery mechanisms in the areas of basic education, water supply and transportation infrastructure (roads).

GDN is now inviting researchers (teams and organizations) to participate in this project. APPLICATION DEADLINE EXTENDED to 15th September, 2010 .

2010 Global Development Awards and Medals Competition launched

Channeling finance to sustainable development

GDN invites researchers from developing and transition countries to submit new research proposals, completed research papers and proposals for scaling up development projects. Reflecting the global nature of GDN’s activities, the three research themes are – external capital flows and financing for development; domestic resource mobilization and financial sector development; and innovative sources of development finance. The Competition funded by the Government of Japan and other donors offers grants and travel expenses to finalists to present their research/proposals at GDN’s next conference in Bogota, Colombia in January 2011.The deadline for development projects is September 22, 2010 and for research proposals/papers is October 25, 2010.

Global report on migration launched

Development on the Move: Measuring and Optimising Migration’s Economic and Social Impacts

This report captures the main results from Development on the Move: Measuring and Optimising Migration’s Economic and Social Impacts, a joint project of the Global Development Network (GDN) and the Institute for Public Policy Research (ippr).

The ground-breaking global research project, supported by a consortium of international donors, has gathered new, comparative qualitative and quantitative data about migration’s development impacts. It has done so through an ambitious methodology involving primary research in seven countries, across six continents over three years. Researchers spoke to thousands of people and gathered comparable in-depth data from close to 10,000 households.
