Expertise: Institutional macroeconomics, gender, development, the open economy and international finance. Current work in progress includes the role of rules in governance in a democracy, for example in coordinating monetary, fiscal and exchange rate policies, and improving systemic incentives. A comparative study of Indian and Chinese growth based on the differences in their institutions helps to illustrate these principles.
Professional/ Work Experience: Ashima Goyal has taught at the Delhi School of Economics, Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics, and spent some time on a fellowship at the Economic Growth Centre, Yale University, USA. She has taught courses in Development Theory and Policy and Advanced Macroeconomics, and guided a number of research students. She is the author of numerous international and national publications, and a book on Developing Economy Macroeconomics. She won a prize for the best research on gender at the GDNet conference in Tokyo 2000, and for the best research on governance at the Rio conference 2001. She has organized the annual conference on Money and Finance at IGIDR. She is also active in the Indian policy debate, writes in national newspapers and magazines, gives public lectures and interviews to the media.
